Did Nicola Sturgeon say “JK Rowling is not a real feminist like me”? Or is it fake news?
Today’s fake news comes from the daily telegraph who claim that Nicola Sturgeon said “JK Rowling is not a real feminist like me”.
Now I have some issues with both the women mentioned here but I don’t believe Nicola Sturgeon said anything of the sort.
But don’t take my word for it. Nicola Sturgeon did two interviews (that I could find) over the last few days where the GRR has come up.
The first was too, Radio 4’s flagship new program, Today.
The second was to LBC
As you can see/hear Nicola Sturgeon didn’t say anything like “JK Rowling is not a real feminist like me”, it’s clearly fake news. This is a clear example of the telegraph attacking Sturgeon as a trans ally and the First Minister of Scotland (and so not a tory).
As I’ve noted before, the UK press isn’t at all in fear of making stuff up to fulfil an agenda. At the moment it’s trans people, but in the 80’s and 90’s it was other LGB people , more recently (and for long before) it’s been immigration.
